I am a first time boat owner but concider myself mechanically inclined from working on my cars, lawnmowers, etc. I recently bought a project boat (a 1970 fleetcraft with a 45 hp Chysler with newer lower unit) with the hope of fixing it up so my son and I can do some fishing. I seem to be having problems finding parts for the motor. Right now I am looking for a thermostat and who knows what else in the future. After reading through this forum there seems to be people with similar problems. Is there a company that I can contact for parts? The other alternative is to just find another motor.

If you have the old parts, it's helpful to post a picture of them. A lot of
these older motors had the same parts but with different #s. By posting
a pic someone can see it and say "Hey that's just like the one on my 75hp",
etc. etc.

I know in some year models, the 45 used the same thermostat as my 50 does
so if that's the case, Sierra makes the replacement and most places carry it.
Don't order one based on what I said, though, until you know for a fact it's the
same part.
