We recently acquired a 1970 Duo Vagabond boat. It had been stored in a boat house since 1999. We have so far cleaned it up some, and got it running by replacing a few things. Battery, spark plugs, hoses, etc. It runs but still needs some work. Now we are trying to decide whether to keep or sell? It’s a really cool boat and would be great finished. My question is what is the approximate value of it as is? And restored? I haven’t been able to find much info aside from original ads and info. It doesn’t seem to be listed on any boat value sites. I’m a total newbie to boats so any info is appreciated! These pics are fresh from the boat house before we started cleaning. I’ll have to get some updated photos.

Most boats don’t gain great value restored. Fixing and restoring costs way more in time and materials than you will ever get back. As mentioned, if the boat has sentimental value to you then it may be worth it, otherwise sell it as is. Look around to see what similar age and condition boats are selling for in classifieds.

Fixing boats is very labor intensive and dirty work. Most of us fix our project boats for the utility and satisfaction of accomplishment. Fixing up a boat does save you over buying a new one with “sweat”equity but no one else will pay you for the labor you invest. I am fixing an old Baja that should have gone to the landfill…… but it is a cool boat I will enjoy boating in. I like working on it but never expect any financial gain. For me it is a form of entertainment. Actually, I am in denial about what I am spending in materials alone.
