I picked up this 1970 evinrude 115 motor for a good price to power this boat i had. when i had it with the muffs on it did not show signs of a good water pump. (to be honest i deal mostly with mercury and it is easier for me to tell when a merc needs a water pump).
So i replaced the waterpump. well the pump looked fine what i noticed was above the pump housing there was one plastic tube about 3 inches long. But there were two holes in the pump houseing. So i looked up the mid section of the motor and there was two copper tubes coming down. My thinking was maybe something happened to the other plastic tube. So i made a new tube out of plastic i work in a machine shop, and i still have no sign that the pump is working.
My questions with the older evinrudes do they have a visible check to see if the water pump is working, or is it on a thermostat and only kicks open when hot enough.
My controls have a "hot" light on it, so i drove the boat around for 20 minutes and the motor ran great, and the "hot" light never turned on.
Did i do right with the secound plastic tube i put in? Any help would be great. Thanks
