1970 four stroke Evenrude

I have a friend that bought a poontoon boat that has a 1970 4stroke Evenrude 70hp. I Never heard of such.I was told that Johnson made 50 in 1970 and 50 in 1971. but put Evenrude covers on them. problem is I need a voltage regulator for the charging system and every place I've looked poeple look at me like I'm crazy. I dont have the serial number with me right now but will get it later. Can any one shed any light on this Engine.
