1970 Glastron v-164 soft/canvas top

Hi , I have a 1970 Glastron v-164 with the 140 mercruiser in it I got it off of a guy my grandpa sold the boat to years ago and when I got it back just two years ago I’ve been restoring it every since and I’m still goin, I talked to me grandpa about the boat and I just so happens that the boat had a soft top to it but he threw it away because it was ripped I ended up asking him about it because I realized the boat has a hole in each gunwall giving me the impression that pool were supposed to go in there and there were little snap on on the gun wall and windows I’m just curios to know if anyone knows where I could possibly find someone who would know what this soft top is supposed to look like and or where I could find one or if I would have to pay an upholstery shot to make a new custom one thank you to anyone in advance who can help me out with this topic , the summer is coming up and I’d love to take my girl friend out but it gets way too hot to chill out on the lake all day without any type of shade now that I know the boat has that option of a soft or canvas top coming with it I’d like to get my hands on one

Lots of pictures of that boat on the internet. Pictures with the top, , not so much. I saw a couple but the tops were clearly not that vintage.

Glastron soft top or canvas cover questions

Hi, I bought a 1970 glastron v-164 bayflite with a 140 mercruiser in it, it originally was my grandpas but he sold it years back and I bought it back from the guy he sold it to about 2 years ago. I notice the boat has a hole in each gunwale giving me the impression some sort of poles are supposed to go in it and it has snaps on the gunwale and on the window side as well. I talked with my grandpa and he happened to mention that when he got the boat it came with a soft top or canvas cover When he bought it I’m not sure how much of this is accurate because I’ve been looking at images of it on a similar boat and I can’t find any other photos. I’d like to see if anyone can confirm whether or not this boat came with a soft top cause I’ve seen a canvas cover but I’d like to get a hold of a top if the boat came with one I can upload pictures if anyone needs them, thank you in advance.

Ok thank you that was very helpful I seen some photos of some that were similar to mine and it seems like I have found out what it’s supposed to look like now the only problem is finding one

Very likely you will not find one, or if you do you better hurry up and play the lottery too. :joyous: I would find a couple pictures that best represent what the top is supposed too look like, then find a custom boat cover maker. Some of those folks have tubing benders and could make you a custom top that would look very nice, and likely look the vintage of the boat.
