Dallas, The boat looks good. I recommend you keep you eye open for a 3 cylinder 50-70HP Johnnyrude from the early seventies, to replace that old beast. i think it will be more of a match in vintage, and a much better motor, especially on fuel useage.

very nice find. check out the existing 75, if reasonable, restore it also. that is one power house of a motor. gas hungry, but one heck of a motor.

Re: 1970 Glastron V163 restore

thanks for the welcome guys you are probly right about me being better off putting anuther motor on her but one upside to a rebuild is i could put mony into her as i could aford it but anuther down side im kinda consernd about is how hard is it gona be to finde parts to rebuild her?!!!! gas well thats not a big prob as far as her liking gas my catfishing holes are not that long a trip the mane thing for me is dependabilaty i will be doing moste of my boating on the sippi and if my understanding is right whean these old motors are right thay are good old work horses.
i have rebuilt lots of old car motors but this will be my first boat motor so if i do rebuild this will be a learning exspearreuns to so be prepaird for me to do some ear bending lol im looking forwerd to getting started on her got a lota work ahead of me but this old girl is well worth the efert

Re: 1970 Glastron V163 restore

well it warmed up today so i could smoke the boat over a little better
i am trashing the motor the lower unit it cracked i would rather get a newer motor anyway that one is kind of a dinasor anyway so whean i start taking the boat apart and take the motor off i will part it out to help some of you guys out that has this same motor

Good to see another glastron finding new life with a new owner. At the rate I'm going, I'll be too old to use the boat by the time I get it finished ( I'm 36 )

Re: 1970 Glastron V163 restore

I am glad to see you are keeping a old Glastron from the scrap. I restored a 1973 Glastron V186 Swinger with a '72 125 Evinrude some years back. The rig had sat up for years and had a soft floor but solid transom. I didnt have any hope in the motor. After complete restore on the boat I ran some clean gas/oil to the old 'rude and she fired. I had the carbs clean and changed the gear lube. I used her for one season until I lost a blade on the water pump impellor. I had it replaced and ran her for a few more. The old dog would run over 40. I was still able to by hull parts directly from Glastron. I replaced the old Glastron "football" insignias" with brand new ones. I took the old ones and placed them on the trailer.

I had another 1972 V176 Swinger with a 100 Johnson that I tried to buy for years come available but it was in real bad shape and the hull scrapped. Had the owner let me have it sooner, I could have saved it.
Good luck

Re: 1970 Glastron V163 restore

Had my eye on my boat for a while too. It was sitting on the edge of a road along with a bunch of other boats. I had to convince the wife that I would finish this thing if I started it. Well, I'm willing, the finances and working time has yet to find its way into a timely resto. I'll get there eventually.
