1970 Johnson 25hp wont start

Hello All,

quick question. I have a 1970 Johnson 25ph motor. It has been sitting for 15 years unused. I'm stating to work on it to see if it will run.

I took the carb off and soaked and blow it out with air. Check the float, order a rebuild kit.

I put the carb back on to see if it would fire. I check and cleaned the spark plugs.

Checked the fuel lines to the carb. I'm getting gas to the carb. But it will NOT fire.

I took the top plug out and put some fuel in the cylinder. It fired and pudder for 5 - 10 seconds.

Am I wasting my time on this engine? Please help.

Also, I have ordered a new impellor and pull handle.

check compression turn it over 5-6 times, also check spark with a tester, you have to trouble shoot before buying parts.
