The throttle gets stuck just before neutral and it won't go into reverse.

So far I've taken the Remote Control apart and removed all the parts put back togother. It works but after a few times on the water, it always get stuck again.

Can someone help? I have the manual but I didn't see anything that resolves this problem.

Re: 1970 Johnson 70hp Throttle Stuck

I would check the linkage on the engine itself and see if it is sticking there or if not at the engine maybe the cable itself is going bad inside somewhere inside the black outer jacket. I would check there. I would remove the engine cowling and remove the throttle shift cable and see if you can shift and move throttle by hand and see if it sticks on you. I know there are some grease fittings on there and it might just need some lubrication added to the grease fittings and then maybe good to go afterwards. Let us know if this works or not. Take care, Bob:)

Already checked linkage and cable and there are no issues here. My friend and I tested everything at the motor and we've determined the problem is definetly in the Remote Control. But were not sure why it gets stuck. The only way to get it unstuck is to take apart the entire control, removing the ball bearing and spring and putting it back together. Its seems that it is getting stuck somewhere near the teeth of the control.
The control has been stuck so many times that I've feel like a pro pulling this thing apart.

check the teeth, if damaged replace, also make sure when you put it back together, the teeth are in neutral position, one tooth off will cause that problem.

Pulled control apart again. I still can't determine what part would need to be replaced. I can see some small scratches on the shift and throttle plate. It almost seems the throttle plate is not snug enough. The teeth seem fine, but perhaps there not as sharp as they should be.
Anyways, it works right now but I have a feeling it will get stuck again.

If anyone has a solution or similar problem, let me know.
