1970 johnson 9.5 worth buying?

i have a 1962 5.5 seahorse,runs perfect.<br />i;m thinking of upgrading to a 70 9.5 johnson<br />i have a 12ft harbour craft boat.i want something<br />a little faster,is the 9.5 a good solid engine??<br />the guy is asking 300.00 for the 9.5 johnson<br />any help on this would be great..<br /> thanks<br />dave..ontario canada/

That's about what they're going for around my home. Johnson is a tough little motor and parts are still readily available. I'd think the 9.5hp would give you quite more speed than the 5.5hp<br /><br />Actually I was just looking at a 1968 9.5 Johnson (looked new) for $425.00 didn't buy it but compared to new motor prices I was tempted.<br /><br />Dave

thanks,this 9.5 looks in good shape,not abused anyway..with 4 people in the boat the 5.5 gets ya there,but a little slow,so i'm hoping this 9.5<br />is at least twice as fast.it has a three blade prop the 5.5 has a 2 blade.my family goes camping<br />with a tent trailer and we put the boat on top,<br />and then drop everything off when we get to the lake.its a lot of work but worth it.we use the <br />boat for sightseeing and fishing ,of course.<br /> <br />thanks again for your reply...dave
