I recently purchased a 1970 Johnson Outboard, the model number is 20R-70C and serial number J3252425. Does anyone know what the correct oil mixture is, whether I have to add lead, and were I could possibly find an owners manual? Thanks

Re: 1970 Johnson Question

Welcome to Iboats!

The correct fuel mixture is 50:1 87 octane gas to TC-W3 rated outboard oil. This works out to 1 pint for 6 gallons of gas.

Lead never did anything good for 2-strokes and is completely unnecessary. Your engine is much better off without it.

You can order a reprint of your owners manual from kencook.com, marineengine.com, theoutboardwizard.bizhosting.com, maxrules.com, etc. But the service manual is far more useful. You also may find it on ebay using the following search terms:
(johnson, evinrude) (20, 20hp) manual
Johnson and Evinrude outboards from that time were identical save the paint & styling.

Re: 1970 Johnson Question

Thanks for your concerns JB! But I was simply vacationing. August and September are our good months, so the boat time cuts into the Iboats time. :)
