Re: 1970 Mercury 7.5 outboard parts needed
I have a 1969 7.5 Mercury . . . a nice engine. It seems like the parts for these engines are either pricey or non-existant. Looks like you can get the stator - new replacement type part - for $250 ish  on MarineEngine.com
Mercury Marine 7.5 HP Outboard Motor Parts by Component or try the used one listed on eBay.
FWIW - I usually bring the oars when I go out with the Merc 7.5 . . . because with a 40+ year old engine, something is likely to fail. I have to rebuild the fuel pump on my engine over the winter. I replaced some seals on the lower unit earlier this year and also had to spend $50 on a fuel line connector
However, I figure that once I get things fixed, it should last a while. If I had a newer engine, then things would probably start to break in a few years anyway.
