today i was running my outboard. its a 1971 45 hp Chrysler. it was missing a little, so i pulled a plug wire off. not only did the wire come off but the whole wire came apart. i took the wires out of the coils. it looked really similar to the old points ignition auto coil wire. i went to the auto parts store and found a coil wire for a car. the end that goes into the coil looked exact. i know that i would need to put a 90 degree plug wire boot on the other end. my question is, will a car one work? i have been looking all night for a replacement one, but haven't been having any luck.

Re: 1970 outboard plug wires

You need an all copper wire.

Some auto parts stores still sell these, or in bulk by the foot.

If you use a modern auto resistor type wire, you will destroy your ignition system, or it just won't have enough umph to overcome the resistance.
