Hi,

I have a (I believe) 1970 Sea King 5 hp outboard made by Clinton. It is Model #5001106C, Type XTV270Q5B and serial 370535. My dad bought this when I was a kid along with a small aluminum jon boat. It was used for a couple of years and then stored in a basement. I think it has been stored since 1973 or 1974. Well, now I am a grandpa and I would like to refurbish this motor to play with the grand kids. I need some info on where to find parts lists, parts and hopefully a manual. I have my eye on a general outboard service manual (volume I 30 hp and less) but don't know if that will provide sufficient info to identify parts. With it apart it is evident that at a minimum I need at least the following items that are not general items:

a contact set
a condenser
carb gaskets (a carb kit)
a diaphram

I am not sure what else I will need as I go forth into this adventure so any help or suggestions would be appreciated. BTW supprisingly, to me at least, this engine looks pretty clean. It did start but sputters and backfires. I am doing a good carb cleaning. What do I need to consider about the gearing and lower unit?

Thanks for at least reading this far :)

Dave Hall

Welcome to iboats.
Check the Marine Mega Mall tab above.

This site has a wealth of old outboard information...
http://www.discount-marine-parts.com/
Specifically...
http://www.discount-marine-parts.com/ob_clinton.html
http://www.discount-marine-parts.com/ob_sea_king.html
http://www.discount-marine-parts.com/ob_sea_king_clinton_model.html

Good luck with it. I have a 7Hp. Check for gearlube, but it's probably a thin whitish grease that won't drain. Check it, but it's probably okay. :)
