I have had my 1972 15ft trihull for a dozen years now and never thought about hooking up the installed tach as it just had 2 wires that were cut about 6" long. One black and one that looks brown.I have researched these forums and I still can't figure out if it needs the "transmitter" to work as this is not present.I have a 1971 Johnson 50hp with the original single handle control box with original electric start.

I don't mind opening the control box to add a wire to the switch but I need to know if:
1.Do I need a transmitter, I won't be buying one as they are rare.
2.I assume the black is a ground but if the brown wire is attached at the switch, where does it connect?

Many Thanks,
Jim
