1971 100hp tacho

can i run any normal electronic tacho bought from a auto store on this motor or does it have to be a evinrude tacho to suit, and if i can run a everyday tacho how the hell do i wire it up,

The OMC tach get's it signal from the alternator, not the ignition. The auto tach won't work.
