Hi all I am looking to buy a 71 125 hydro shift Evinrude but am a little scared about parts if I have troubles. What other motors will the powerhead fit? did they make a 71 manual shift? Can the leg of a manual crossover without major mods? I have read heaps of posts here about gearbox electrical problems but nothing about swaping parts to/from later or earlier V4 models. Thanks norri.

Careful there, Hydro electric is not the same as electric shift. I don't know about compatibility with other legs, but would seem unlikely to me. I'd convert my 1968 55hp Hydro electric in a heartbeat if there were other reasonable options.

Nori, I asked the same question about my 71 125 Johnny, and the replies were all NO, so make sure it WORKS when ya get it ... the replies also were, if its works, its good, but if it aint, be caaaaarrreeeeefulllllllll ...

when I sell the Crestliner, it will prolly have the Johnny on it, once I get it fixed that is ... course knowing me, feeling Chugboat Annie finally powered up the way she should be, Ill have so much fun flying around in it, I wont wanna sell it! Her early days were spent dragging skiers up and down the Delaware River, I had to install fishing rod holders in the gunnels, so Im sure the only fish on there were fillet o fish from mc donalds ...

lol, jeeze, there I go rambling again

From what I am told, they dont interchange, was never explained WHY they dont, but they dont!

Caveat Emptor!

Thanks for the replies, because of the replies we decided to buy (very cheap) it as a stop gap measure and keep looking for a more modern replacement then sell of the 71s parts. It is in truly great condition for its age with low hours freshwater use only, looks new and is all original except for cdi unit. Thanks again
