1971 18HP bearing help which way install numbers up / or down

OK I managed to get the upper drive shaft bearings out the ones under the upper seal , so here is my question which way do the new bearings go in? one end of the bearing carrier has numbers stamped on it to me seems a bit flatter. the other end has no markings at all, so experts please help me out here this way----that way---it don't matter which way???? thanks

as info...1978 9.9/15 hp. FM..instructions are that each bearing in the l/u are to be pressed in with the press against the lettered side of the bearing

Just remember that rule and you will be ok wherever you have to press on a needle bearing. You always press on the lettered end, never on the other end. Pressing on the rounded end will destroy the bearing. That goes for pressing it OUT also. If you have to press it out from the rounded end, it cannot be reused.

Great thanks guys, Boy that thing was a tuffy to get out I was worried I would break the housing.
