Hi everyone,

I have an issue with my 1971 20 Hp Johnson Model 20r71s. And, basically what is happening is that recently I found a part (part no. OMC 0315762) that had fallen off the throttle assembly and I hadn't used it since.

One day I was out on a river, and the motor's tiller handle throttle was at or near WOT where the throttle at first felt stuck, then moved it up a little further and the throttle wouldn't do anything and it was just slipping around but if brought up to idle or low mid-range then it would drop to that speed after a slight delay.

Coming home, I found one bolt on the bottom of the outboard, but scanned everywhere and not sure where it was from.

Then running fine for some time not experiencing that issue again, I one day found the whole lockout lever cam off the throttle assembly unbolted and the other bolt in the cowl as well. Assuming it vibrated out.

I was told that I didn't need the part, because it is for preventing the pull start from starting in too high of revolutions, but I think this part has to do with the throttle.

Recently, going to a lake I had the same issue described with the throttle stuck at WOT or near WOT even when adjusting tiller then eventually correcting it self once I backed it down to the lower end of the throttle with a somewhat delay then sudden drop in RPM. Basically, when it did this I could not steadily throttle down because it was either higher end or lower end it was fine. However, I did occasionally did not have any issues but a good amount of the time I did.

I was wondering if anyone could please confirm whether or not this part is a potential culprit to the issue that is being caused or if the advice given was correct based on the missing part below? And if not that part, then is there any other advice? It just seems interesting to me that the occurrence of that part falling off is during similar time.

The part I am referring to is: http://www.marineengine.com/newparts...num=OMC0315762

Attaching photos below for reference of what happened.

Before is attached where and also attached the after photo.

Thanks much for the help!

I guess you didn't like the replies you got when you asked the same question on that other forum?

Just waiting for an answer that can be understood I guess.-----So remove the that part.----Remove the neutral / starter lock mechanism and test run.

I was getting a little confused over there.

Thank you for your reply. The lock/bolts holding it vibrated out so its not even in there. But it seems I am getting those issues.

I guess what I am wondering is would not having this part affect the way it is while running or in operation?

Had similar issue where the link and stop under mag plate lost a screw and was only holding a few threads on the other which was allowing it to go to far past the shifter lock and bind up

Okay thank you. It seemed to be fine when I used it last to test it out, so I will go with it. Thanks for the advice.
