Re: 1971 20hp merc200 starter

About the only way to find another starter (outside of dropping two bills on a new one) is to find a junker with one already installed. I've owned close to 20 of those old 20s over the years and not one had the electric starter. One apparently had it at one time, as it had the electric choke and other wiring, but the starter was gone. My point is, they weren't terribly common in the first place... Poke around the motor graveyards, marina back-forties, etc. and see what turns up!

If you dont want it please email/pm me the dealers name as I have several people that would like this starter, I have been looking for one quite a while. I have 2 of them but they want way to much to rebuild them(need armatures rewound).

I don't have the same motor, but my starter has been a semi annual
problem. I take it to a battery shop and they rebuild it.
I have a vision problem, or I would do it my self. About $100, if
you have the starter. They might even be able to find one.
Merc's soleniods have a habit of sticking, I'm told. Plays
heck with the starter.
