Well after a couple of years of using my 1971 Evinrude 50hp outboard, I've found a much newer motor to replace it with. Now comes the task of selling off the Evinrude, however I got it as part of a package deal, so I'm not sure what a fair price to ask for the motor alone would be. Also having not had any other boats or motors perviously, I really have no idea. I've looked around local ads for "like" motors, and have come up with some ballpark prices based on that, but I don't know if those are fair values or not.

So what I'm asking is:

Does anyone know what fair value would be for?:

- 1971, 50HP Evinrude Outboard with Controls (no power tilt/trim)
- Good Compression
- Carbs fully rebuilt 2 years ago, and full tuneup
- New prop.
- Clean in appearance and paint not shipping, but cowel is a bit sun faded.
- New Shop Manual for the motor, and 6 bottles of new Type-C gear oil
- New throttle cable (replaced at end of last season)
- Stored indoors all winter, so not subjected to the cold since I've owned it.

I'm not trying to sell this on here, I'm just trying to figure out what it would be worth (ball park), so I don't sell myself short, or rip anyone off. Prices in the local area ads (300km radius) are between $750 and $850 for the same vintage, and size Johnson/Evinrude o/b, but that seemed kind of high to me.

Anyone have a good idea of what it's really worth?

Personally I would not pay $750+ for a hydro-electric shift 50 HP, more like $300-$400. That having been said, The control with the push-button shift may be worth some money, as would the functional lower unit. I sold a 72 50 HP Evinrude with a blown piston and a hole in the crankcase for $300 here in the ATL area. The buyer just needed the driveshaft, but bought the whole thing because they wanted a supply of spare parts.

On the other hand, if the local ads are listing the motor at $750-$850, then you should try to match that price point. You can always negotiate down. Negotiating up as a seller is kinda tough.
