Toook my 1971 Evinrude 25hp Tiller out on the river to scout some locations. The motor kept killing its self. I noticed the fuel bulb got a little soft each time. So I manually pumped it while throttling. Ran great. I was trying to figure out what the problem was........ but left it alone for the night.

The nest day I go out to the boat and see that the gas tank is blown up like a balloon (scary). It is a brand new tank (the new EPA ones with the screw on fixture). I was able to unscrew the gas cap to let out all the air.

DO I need an old tank with a vent? These new tanks have no vent that I can see.

Thanks as always.

Was the fuel line connected to it when this happened?? Does the cap have a vent screw on it ??

Yeah. The hose was hooked up and the cap all the way one. There is no vent anywhere on this new tank.
Something else i have noticed is when i pump up the bulb real good gas comes out of the connection at the motor. Need to put a better hose clamp there. Could that be sucking air that cant vent?

Im not very smart when it comes to this stuff.

Thanks in advance.

get a new clamp, gas should not spray out anywhere when you pump primer bulb. how is fuel filter/pump,o rings on quick connects. if it were mine, i would get rid of tank and find an old school one with a vent on it. keep it open on nice days and close it on rainy ones if it is exposed to the weather..........
