My 1971 Evinrude Lark 50 is making an alarm noise from the Selectric remote control. The manual calls it a "hot horn" but I haven't found much information on it yet. Has anyone else encountered this?

Is it just telling me my girlfriend is hot? :)

The hot horn is there to let you know when the motor is running too hot or is overheating. Is your water pump working?

It might not be. I had the water ears hooked up to it when I first heard it but thought maybe it went off because it was in the hot sun. We put it in the water and ran it for about 15 minutes yesterday and it did it again. How can I tell? Is it an easy fix? Is it expensive? Thanks in advance for your input. I really appreciate it!!

I take it you don't have a tell tale installed on your motor. You should see water coming out around the exhaust port area. If you don't, you probably have to replace the water pump. To replace it, you have to drop the lower unit. Be careful with the shift wires. Search this site for more info on procedure.

I was just watching this old video of it running and it looks like it's the same water output as I saw last weekend although it's a little hard to tell could it be the thermostat? Would it be easier to check/replace that first?
