I recently boat a 1971 100hp model number 100ESl71C. When i turn the key the starter will engage and crank the engine but i get no spark from any of the plugs. The power pack makes a clicking noise when the key is in the on position not sure if this is normal or not. Also the motor is a hydro electric shifting model and it is in gear because shifting at the control box does not shift the lower unit, I'm not to familiar with how these systems work. I don't really know where to start so any information would be greatly appreciated.

If you are going to work on the engine yourself, get a factory service manual from the original publisher, Ken Cook Co., in Milwaukee, Wisc. They are on the web. That engine has dual points. Probably the easiest/cheapest thing is to replace the points and condensers first. The rest of the ignition system is more complicated and expen$ive. The starter on that engine probably has to turn it over at least 200 rpm before the ignition system will make spark-check for a weak battery or bad connections.
