Are ANY of the components of the 1971 Johnson 125 compatible/swappable with the 1973 Evinrude 135? Wiring? Stator? Starter? Throttle cables? Wiring Harness?

Thanks!

A big problem between the two is that the '71 is hydro-electric shift (uses gearcase oil pressure to shift with electric solenoids) whereas the '73 is mechanical shift (they switched to mechanical shift after '72).
Meaning the majority of the parts are not compatible. I believe even the teeth of the flywheel and the teeth of the starters wouldn't match up.
Your throttle cable is somewhat "universal", the wiring harness from the '71 could be used on the '73 but not vice-versa...
The carburetor throats MIGHT be the same size but I'd check with a caliper, air intake cover could be used.

There's a lot of changes that they made in those 2 years... in other words, no, not really a lot is interchangeable.

I'd be happy to take some of the '71 parts off your hands though! ;)

The carbs are interchangeable from a mounting standpoint and should run on either engine. Both should be 1 5/16" throats. The 135 carbs mains are .073, the 125 mains are .072. You'd want to insure that if you do a swap that the 135 engine does not run lean with the 72 carbs. The biggest difference is that the 71 carbs have variable idle jet screws. By 1973, OMC had gone to fixed idle jets.
