1971 johnson 9.5 help

hi i lost spark on my outboard so i checked the coils they were both badly corroded so i ordered new ones put them in now i dont have any spark at all so what did i miss any thoughts thx

First thing I would do is disconnect the kill switch wires. If the switch is going to ground you will not get spark. Best of luck. Rick.

Start by back tracking, remove the flywheel, check all wire connection to make sure they are corrosion free-clean and shiny. check that nothing got pinched, check coils are in alinement with the magneto boss's. check spark plug wire to coil connection, also plug wire to spark plug clip. make sure the points are clean, not burnt or disfigured in any manner, clean point contacts with alcohol and q-swab set points at 0.20 make sure all coil screws are tight, wires are in the correct place and tight. place fly wheel back on and re-test for spark. best of luck.

thx im getting new plug wires and clips ill take it all apart and try agian check the coil to wire connection the alignment for magneto boss's should be flush ? thx

A check of LeeRoys Ramblings will give you some of the best info for working on the older 9.5 OMC motors and is one of the best on the web pluse it's free. He goes into some detail of troubles and fixes of them . Well worth the time spent doing the reading. JMO
