So trying to get my engine to start I found out that the motor was ?Hot? (electric on). Even with the key on the remote off or out. I had to remove the wire wrap to find that the battery cables go right to the motor and not the remote. Looking at the parts diagram of the remote i see it has 2 battery terminals. How should this be hooked up?
Should it be battery to remote. Or battery to motor and remote?
I could see negative to battery and a positive to remote then battery. The starter works by jumper cables. I have a new scylla annoyed on the way.

Positive battery to solenoid, then smaller gauge wire off that solenoid post to an inline fuse, then back through wiring harness to BATT terminal of keyswitch in the remote..

At least that's how it is on my 71' 50hp..
Don't know the model engine you have or which remote, but that's the bare basics of it..

Thank you jbuote. I have a 60ES-71C connected to a johnson hydro electric drive. I?ll have to see if there is a small wire back feeding to the remote.

jbuote - have you replaced the power pack on your motor? I?ve been trying to get mine to work. I replaced the original with the CDI new one and now have no spark. But not sure if it?s all hooked up right.

No I haven't replaced the power pack..
Not even sure if it's the same.. You have a 60 hp.. Is that a 3 cyl?
Still pretty new.. My 50ESL71 is my first outboard..

If someone confirms it's the same, I'll get a pic of it though..
Somehow I think your ignition is somewhat different than mine however.. (different power packs I think...)

In fact, I'm pretty sure it's quite different than mine..
When I look at this parts breakdown for ignition on a 60ES71C, I don't even see a "PowerPack" at all..

Just part #31.. Amplifier?
There's talk of a distributor and not sure if that's it, but nothing I could show you from my engine would apply as far as ignition goes..

Shifting? Hydro-Electric, sure.. I can talk about that all day long.. LOL..
Remote? if it's similar, sure.. lol
Mine looks like this
