I have a 1971 johnson 50hp sea-horse hydro-shift that will not shut off after starting. I just replaced the lower unit fluid & impeller. I also rebuilt the carbs by repair manual specs. Adjusted the low speed & adjusted to 5/8 of a turn as the manual stated. The manully trouble shooting guide said it could be remote ground or faulty key switch. I checked the grounds & checked for nicks in the wire or anything that might be grounding out. I cannot find anything! I even took apart the controls to check those wires. nothing. I'm thinking its the ignition switch. but it seems to be operating correctly. Anyone have any advice. Please I'm running out of thing to check. Thank for reading.

The key switch kills the motor by grounding the black/yellow stripe wire. Try grounding it at the other end (at the power pack). If that kills it, then there is a fault somewhere between there and the key switch, the switch itself, and/or back to ground at the motor. That includes the connections going through the yellow plug.

EDIT: Careful, that wire can shock you.
