Are parts available to replace gimbel bearing and bellows for the outdrive? Looking at a boat that seller says that a "marine mechanic" told him the bearing and bellows needs to be replaced due to a small hole in the bellows. Outdrive is off the boat so can not run engine. So that is a crap shoot.

Can the outdrive be updated with a newer style, assuming the engine is good? The rest of the boat has supposedly been restored what ever that means, it does have new upholstery but many a used car has been restored with a pressure washer and a rattle can of engine paint. So a close inspection of the entire outfit is necessary. It presently is in a heated garage. Price will definetly need negotiating as it a 40 + year old non-running fibreglass boat and it is heading into winter.

Interested in the boat because I bought one new similar to this one. 19ft, Aristocraft, probably long out of business

Move on to another boat.......you can't run the engine, and the boat was "supposedly" restored? You are already questioning what he is telling you. Hit craigslist and im sure you'll find a better one out there.

Yes, parts are available both OEM and aftermarket. Except for shift interrupt switches.
Yes the newer Alpha I drives will fit, up to and including 1990. The Alpha I Gen II will not fit.

You can run the engine without the outdrive. Just remove the intake hose from the drive at the thermostat housing. Make an adapter for your garden hose, Level the engine up on the trailer, or stern down a bit turn on the water and fire it up. The hose pressure will replace the water pump that's in the drive.

Thanks Don S. Sentimental reasons for being interested in this unit. Normally would bypass this one but if can be resurected for reasonable $ ?

Ziggy, found the Aristocraft section on IBoats yesterday, spend most of the day-evening and this a.m. catching up. I bought a new 9teen in '73 (I thnk) Gold interior w/ gold soft top and aft curtain.merc.165. Ran on Lake Cumberland and the Ohio River for several years before trading up to a 22 ft. Sea Ray Found one locally this week with a 140. Lower is off, needs bearings and bellows + who knows. white w/red interior and hardtop. non original seats. Price would be on the upper $ if it was running. As it is,cannot tell if tilt works or what any of the rest of the mechanicals are like. Still will probably look at it.Ilike the minimal amount of wood used in the construction - not stringers to worry about.
