Hi, I have a 1971 mercury 1150 and I had a problem with it not openning up all the way at wot, I was going to spray some gumout in the carbs and I noticed the bottom one was dripping fuel out the bowl, and when I sprayed gumout in it, it reved up faster instead of bogging down like it ususally would, it won't even idle now with out the cold start throttle on, does this sound like something that will cost me alot to fix if I put it in the shop? Thanks for any help.

Sounds like you float is plugged/hung up. On my 1973 it is below the filter on each carb and is round. I took off the filters and the plugs on the bottom of the carbs and was able to spray through all the passages of the carb with cleaner. You can even take the main jets out to check them for gunk. Not very hard to do if it is the same setup.

If your float is hung the fuel will run out when you squeeze the bulb. Mine drips when tilted up too.

Either way, get them cleaned out as running it lean can damage the engine.
