hello all I just bought a 1971 pacemaker hull #338 with twin 454 crusaders(i think) the boat was a project of a friends who's wife ran out of patiance. the motors are new and mounted with shafts and trans.the boat has been stripped on the inside. any one know where I can find wiring diagrams and layout plans? this is my first inboard and I dont know where anything is supposed to go (bilge pumps water tanks ect.) also is it practical to install diesels? any help out there?

Sounds like a cool project. Unless you have a massive bank account, I would not do a lot of thinking about diesel repowering if I were you. You could buy a really nice boat for the cost of repowering with twin deisels. As far as wiring and layout, you don't need a specific diagram to the boat, you just need to know what needs to be wired to what. Boats are pretty simple to wire. Layout is pretty flexible. You can rebuild the boat into any layout you want as long as you keep weight distribution and structural integrity in mind. BTW, bilge pumps go in the area of the boat that will sit the lowest in the water, usually the stern area in the very bottom of the bilge. You may want to hit the book store and look for books on boat restoration, or go to a local shop that specializes in restoration/structural repair of boats, not a marina (they are worthless unless you want to buy an outboard motor from them), and talk with them. I did that and it was very helpful, they showed me several projects they had going on and gave me a wealth of info. Good luck...

Have you check the fuel tanks?Do so before installing everything.Boat wiring is not as easy as it is to do!Your boat, does it have 12V dc and 120V ac?Do a web check on marine wiring. The ABYA has a standard on ga,colors of wire to be used in a boat. Then you have a bonding system in your boat. Its a must!
