1972 125hp Johnson bulb slow to move fuel

In the past year I replaced my 5/16 fuel line with 3/8" hopeing to get more fuel to the engine therefore better performance. When pumping the bulb recently to prime the engine it takes a LONG time. Could this be due to the hose size increase? Should I replace the hose to factory specs, etc. It is very frustrating pumping the bulb for 2-3 minutes and seeing no results.

vent open on fuel tank? bulb has arrow on it should be point to motor. also newer aftermarket bulbs, like to have the arrow pointed to the sky when pumping, they work much better that way.
