Hey guys I'm debating on this little boat for a river fishing rig for catfish and gar mostly. The guy said he got the boat, had it for 2 days, had it on the water for about 2 hours and the transom cracked. Obviously needs a new transom. My only questions are I have no idea what Brand it is, and other than the obvious transom, soft spots on the floor etc. Is there anything I should look for that would make it a deal breaker? I've been thinking about getting sea cast and just doing the entire transom with that. Thoughts? Oh and it has a 65hp merc

From the few pix and description, pay what the trailer and motor only are 'worth' or a little LESS.

Theres likely to be quite a bit of work ahead, beyond 1st repairing the transom, and all the demo that will require, prepping it for SeaCast that will probably cost 3-400 (or more, propably not much if any less), plus shipping, and then finishing tfhe transom w it.

Is it titled? Is that requires in your state? Same for title AND motor if you're in Ohio, possibly other state

Same as your boat posted in your 6hp mptor topic, waterlogged hull and/or foam.

Everything is titled, I'm expecting about $500 to do the transom myself. I guess the question is, is it worth the money to fix it up if the hull and deck seem fine. And I would be obtaining it in a trade for my current boat.

Only you can decide, if its 'worth' the trade, even if we knew more about the boat you have now.

As a money maker, not 'worth' it.

Spending $2500 fixing it up, new from hull up, you'd end up w a better boat then what you could buy for $2500. A 2500 boat is likely to need some work too..

I'm very aware that something cheap is going to require work, which is part of why I want it. I enjoy a project My concern is the age of the boat. My current boat is just a 1436 tracker with an old 15hp evinrude.

IMHO with enough time, money, engineering and effort just about any boat can be made not only sea worthy, but often better than new. If the boat will suit you and you can get it cheap (plus motor checks out) I'd go for it.

Looks kinda like a Hurricane deck boat maybe .. If you can get it cheap enough it should be worth it if the motor runs well ..
It would take a good bit of time and effort ..With the transom as bad as it looks you can be sure the stringers are the same ..
Seacast is a really good product IMHO .. I have used it a few times and have no regrets .. That being said , it is pretty pricey and if your on a tight budget that can be a negative ... So you could just use a good plywood to save some bucks . If taken care of and all penetrations sealed up correctly there is no reason a wood structured boat wouldn't last for as long as you want the boat .. Just depends on how much effort and money you would want to put into it ...
Good luck and let us know how we can help !!

the transom and floor are the last things to rot. $500 wont be nearly enough plan on at least 5x that. yes, $2500 - same number that JB mentioned in post #6. BTW, $500 is about what you will pay just for safety equipment and incidentals alone like tyvek suits, gloves, face mask, mixing buckets, etc.
