The Model No. is 25253 RE 0002735 I bought this motor at an auction sale with no remote controls or manual. It has a windup starter & tiller controls. There is also a wiring harness which consists of two battery leads and the female side of a standard 4 wire flat trailer light hookup. The outside wire is white & not hooked up to anything. The middle wire is yellow & goes to the starter solenoid. On each side of the yellow is a green & black wire both of which connect up under the flywheel. I got the motor to start by running a hot wire from battery and poking it in the center hole. I only let it run a couple seconds, plus I had the lower end submerged. My question is if I start the motor, the way I described, and run it without having the green and black wires hooked up , will I hurt anything like a allternator or ignition system. By obtaining the other side of the coupler I can easly hook up a switch to activate the starter. but to what do I connect the green and black wires. I know the white is ground. Also ther is a curved bar on back side of motor which comes against a post and kills the motor when I turn the tiller control to stop. If I just unplug the wiring harness will this motor start and run all right, by using the windup starter and tiller controls. Any help will be appreciated.

Hello olfarmer
My list shows your motor as a 1972 model. Sounds like you got a little Rube Goldberg action going on. I belive your other two wires are for the kill switch (button).
I would think you could disconect that mess and run it as a manual tiller model with no problem. I don't think it has a alternator. On the other hand elect start is kind of nice. So if they made a good job of the wireing, and you can make sense of it, keeping in mind safety, go ahead and use it. The white wire might have been used for elect choke. Maybe one of the wiring gurus will shed some more light on this.

Olfarmer

According to an ole schematic I found, alcan is on the money. The two wires going under the flywheel are your kill. Connect them together and the engine dies.(connect them to a kill switch if desired).DO NOT CONNECT POWER TO THEM! If you did, you may need points and coils.
>You could also just use the tiller control to the stop position. This motor has no charging by the looks of her. See if there is a solenoid for the choke. This engine can run with no external controls and no battery hook-up.

Hope this helps! :)

Thanks a lot Alcan & Schemactic. I think you may have solved my problem as I was really puzzled about weather there was an altinater or not. I haven't poked any hot wires in the other two holes. I did check them with a multimeter and found there was continuity with about 1000 ohms resistence. I'm going to go ahead and starter her up and see if she'll die when I connect the green and black wire.
