I have a 1972 45hp chrysler on a 14ft hydro-v. The engine seems to run smooth, but it doesnt have enough "umph" to get the boat on a plane!! Also, after running full throttle for an extended period, the idle becomes eradic. and if it dies it wont restart. Points look good. anyone got any suggestions?? Carb? coils? I checked the plugs and one does seem to have a little more buildup than the other, but not by much. The rpms seem to be low. am I dropping a cylinder??

Do a compression/spark test. Then check the fuel system.Ethanol is messing up a lot of motors. It's delaminating the inside of older hoses causing clogs in the carbs and fuel filter.Check for soft hoses and junk in the filter on the motor.Check the diaphram .J

Thanks Jerry. All the fuel lines are pretty old and soft. That makes sense. I did change the inline filter, there was some crap in it but i figured it sucked it off the bottom of the tank. At any rate thats a good starting point thanks again.
