Hi everyone I’m installing my lower unit back on my 9.5 but when I connect the shift linkage and and then slide the lower unit up into place it shifts down into foward and not in to neutral. Double checked and the lower unit itself is in neutral and the prop spins free. When reinstalling I made sure to put the engine in reverse then tightened the shift linkage screw

Both notches on shift rods need to line up BEFORE screws are put into the shift linkage.

Well----I can see the notch in your picture.----Properly assembled you can NOT SEE THAT !----And do not worry about forward or neutral.---Just position shift rods to give you maximum working room.

??---Neutral , forward or reverse does not matter.--I hope I am clear with that statement.----SIMPLE----The notches on the upper and lower shift rod must line up with hole in connecter BEFORE you put the bolts in.----Move shift rods to give you the maximum room to work.
