Guys I need a little help here. After timing the outboard I noticed that the timing adjustment nylon two piece bracket was complete closed looking like one piece, not the usual 3/8" to 1/2" gap between the two pieces. Timed at 28* advanced telling me something is not right but what? For some reason no matter what I did it always ended up touching each other.
Any ideas please?

Isa ... check that the distributor is at zero when top piston is at TDC.
The curved line at dist. pully should line up with the flywheel outer rim.
If the drive belt is one or two tooth wrong there can wrong with the distance at the plastic block.

I would suggest you to set the timing at WOT to 30dgr BTDC, 28 dgr will work too but then the distance at block will be different.
Factory called for 32dgr BTDC but I always set at 30 dgr.

Nordin, I did all that first before advancing the timing at WOT. The spark is there at 28* but the nylon bracket is completely wrong. I based that on previous settings and everything lining up. Something has moved out of sink and I don't see how to realign it.
It has always lined up in the past and had that 3/8"+ gap..Mater of fact it would start at the hit of the key. TDC lines up perfectly with the timing mark, piston topped out and the curve on the dist gear. COMPLETELY CONFUSED!

jerryjerry .....yes got your message.
Are the parts for Chrysler 3 and 4 cylinders?
Can you narrow out what it is? Ignition parts, gear housing etc.

Isa...... okey I will read about this in my manuals.
Is the engine runing well?
As you have 28 dgr BTDC at WOT, I think there is no problem to run it.
But I will check my manuals.
Do you have the factory service manual?

If you send your private email to the PM in this forum I will scan it and send to you.

I think I figured this out. The new points are wrong causing the dist to rotate wrong to match up with the timing. I need a part number for the correct points or a cross reference to another make, or a car part number for points that will work.
