Re: 1972 chyrsler 70 hp no spark

Just fixed same problem on my 72 70 hp. Check your points. Mine were blown up. Found them at AutoZone, Wells F1094MV ($2.99), also the plug is Autolite Z852 (found them at Advanced Auto ($1.99), the Champion is not made anymore.

You found your points at autozone? I've been putting off buying new points because they cost $25-$30 from a Chrysler dealer.

Were the points the same as what you had before? Or are one set of points just as good as another?

One more thing, Champion does still make the L20V plug. Autozone doesn't carry it however. I had to go to O'Reilys auto parts to find it. I'm sure some others probably had it as well.

Thanks,

Shane

The points for the chrysler engine are actually FORD distributor points...also..the new spark plugs are L76V<---Champion or BUHW <---NGK

TMD

So should I just be able to take an old set of points to Autozone and them be able to match it?

Should we be using the L76V plugs then instead of L20V? Is the L76V a hotter plug?

Shane

Yes..they should be able to match it.

As for the L20v's vs the L76v's the 76's should be hotter as the higher the num with Champion..the hotter the plug...works the other way with NGK

TMD

Bonita16, I've searched Autozone online and can't come up with anything on the points with PN Wells F1094MV . Did you go to the store and match them?

Bonita16 was right on about the points. I took an old set up to autozone earlier today. I didn't tell them anything about the part number. They searched for about 5 minutes and gave me what looked identical to mine. The brand is 'Wells' and the number is F1094MV. I believe that's exactly what Bonita said. I sure appreciate the info!

Shane

This is great news. Now all we need is to find a place that sells new magneto coils.
