The manual says that to replace the t-stat you have to remove the powerhead?
Doesn't seem right. Is there an easier way to do it?
Also on this motor is there a way to back flush the cooling system with the lu removed?
On the starboard bank of cylinders, on the outside, there is a threaded plug of sorts just sitting there...is that to install a tell tale??

thanks

You dont have to remove the power head. just remove the prop and let the air out of the tires on the trailer. Then just wait for the full moon. Oh yes, you have to make sure the wind is blowing s/se at 7mph. Then the t-stat will come right out.
Thats what I have to do on my 1972, 9.5hp evinrude model 9222R

All the V4s are the same I think. This diagram is typical anyway.

101 is the thermostat (Vernatherm) located below and between the cylinder banks. I dont know but I would have thought that was accessible.

Note to Patrickray That model number is for 1971 so no wonder you have so much difficulty! :D
