Start with the basics, compression, spark and fuel delivery. What is the condition of the plugs, do they look like the engine is running lean or rich?

Re: 1972 johnson 100hp prblem after problem

comp is 115 117 114 115, when it dies it appears to flood out, lots of oil gas bubble up to surface when i try to restart but it doesn't tend to restart till next day but not this time it seems to bog out and die when i try to start it today almost tired of it. new lower unit, new water pump, new cdi and coil, new plugs, new sensor for the cdi gapped to .028. is it a lost cause??? need help.

When it stalls, pull the plugs and see if they are gas fouled, really wet. It could be a needle and seat or float problem. Have the carbs been overhauled?

Check the spark. When it won't run, put an inductive timing light on each plugwire. Check for spark. The timing light will show nofires or misfires.
