All,

I just finished replacing a piston in the above motor and reconnecting all the components/powerhead, etc and now I start the engine and no mist comes out of the two holes on the back side of the lower unit. Some water drips from below the water silencing shield and that is it when it is attached to a flush unit supplying the water. I read the Manual I have and it states that I may need to replace the water pump??? I am about $300-$400 into a job and apx 30 hours and do not want to do unneccesary work. Could it be some bolts are not tightened enough and could be causing a leak somewhere? Also the mist was present and therefore the water pump was working well before starting the job??? The engine only has apx 100-150 hours. I did not touch the lower unit except for removing the powerhead from the driveshaft and placing it back on. Please help...

Lost Boater in Sacramento, CA

Howdy, LB.

Unless it has been replaced within the last year, replace the impeller. It is a routine, preventive maintenance task and should be done at least each 2 years, regardless of usage.

That may not be your problem, though. When you drop the foot to change the impeller check out the water tube that feeds the powerhead from the pump. It may not be correctly seated.

Good luck. :)
