the tilt will not lift the motor by itself. can see it is trying. If I help it will lift to the top, & hold it there. If I hit the toggle to lower it a bit, then it creeps down & I can't stop it.. It is full of oil.
Is there a bypass inside the cylinder?? does it have O rings or seals in it? Would I have to dismantle everything or only the top where the ram comes out? My local hydraulic place doesn't want to do it. Says they never worked on these before, & asked me if I thought it's worth fixing, because they charge $90 an hour.. I have done some mechanical work, & with some guidance here, I think I would tackle it.. I'm 76 & lifting the motor manually is a bit stressful..
Thanks in advance..

are you check oil when the motor is all the way up, that is when you fill the reservoir. then lower and raise, refill, repeat till it will not take anymore fluid, then cycle up & down several times.

Thanks, yes I filled it with motor up, & recycled it a few times, works fine without a load on it. As a matter of fact when the ram is fully extended, there's no way I can budge it by hand, but I guess the weight of the motor is more than me pushing it by hand.. I suspect it's something inside the hydraulic cylinder, but afraid to open it not knowing what to expect inside.
Would there be a bunch of springs, ball bearings, seals, come flying out of there. There is a small leak of oil right where the ram comes out of the cylinder..probably a seal or O ring at the round nut with 4 little holes in it for a wrench to take it off..right where the ram comes out..

i cannot find a diagram for that TNT unit. it is seals, plungers, valves. i think i would call around and see who services them. may a hydrolic shop, most dealers are not going to work on a 1972.
