The external mixture knob on the front of the engine is held tight in its place by c clip. When the knob is in its proper place, it can only complete 1 full turn for fine tuning of the idle/high speed fuel/air misture.

My c clip broke and the cable attached to the knob pushed the knob out, allowing it to turn more than one full turn.

My question is, how many turns out from lightly seated sould I set the knob before installing the new c clip?

Any help would be appreciated.

Typical setting is 1.5 turns out from lightly seated. But I would recommend that you fine tune it first without c-clip and then go to center and reinstall clip. good luck

I have the exact same motor and have just been adjusting mine. From what I found on here....seat LIGHTLY, then back out 1 1/2 turns. Could probably install the c clip then. Ended up adjusting mine back in 1/2 to 3/4 turn but yours could be different.

By the way.....mine doesn't have anything like a c-clip...which could have been my original problem. When I first started to adjust mine, it took about 4 or 5 full turns to get to lightly seated!!!! I was beginning to think I couldn't count anymore!!!!
