I have a new to me 1972 50hp Johnson hydro electric shift that won't run in neutral.
All wiring checks out, reverse returns 12v in blue and green wire, neutral returns one 12v and one 0v, and forward is two 0v. Ohm reading from the lower wires to ground was 3ohm but when I pulled the solenoids to check if they are working they were 5ohm each (within the 5-7 spec)
When the engine starts it immediately spins in reverse. When it is shifted to reverse it stays in reverse and when I shift forward it will switch to forward, but no neutral. I took the lower off to replace the water pump but I took the boat out since then and it did shift okay. But when I went to start it this time its stuck in reverse.
Any ideas? Thanks!
