I have removed every bit of wiring from my '72 Bertram. I will be doing a complete re-wire and this remote control unit has frayed wiring for the start interrupt. How hard is it to get to the wiring without screwing something else up? What else should I do "while I'm in there"?

I'm asking because I'm afraid that if I take the side cover off a series of gears and springs will go all over the place

It came apart without any trouble. The switches were a little gummed up but cleaned up nicely. The connectors were soldered to the wires so I clipped them and will put some ancor 16ga duplex in its place.

Where should I grease? And how to I firm up the unit so it is more likely to hold the RPM it is set at?

I would slop some lithium grease where ever it moves/slides. Won't hunt to go overboard, but just the same I wouldn't go overboard. So far as the friction point, I don't know if it has one. It should stay easy enough because carbs don't have return springs
