1972 Merc 7.5 thottle sloppy

Hi all
This is my first time working on an older Merc and well they seem easier and tougher then evenrude/Johnsons in the end Ijust got this ole girl to run however on the tiller throttle it seems there is alot of slop in it from when it turn it to the fast position to full out it takes about a 1/4 turn before anything happens is there anyway to get this slop out of the handle. any pics would serve me well as stated this is the first Merc I have ever done.

Check the gear lash. There is a shim set and plastic bushing for this part to adjust the lash. Part #14 and 15

BTW, 1972 isnt an old Merc.....its just finished the break-in period
