Hi everyone:

Early this summer I bought a package of 3 motors - two of them work, but the third motor - a 1972 Mercury 75 7.5hp - was literally in pieces. The seller assured me they were all there. These motors belonged to his son and when he got halfway into tearing the thing apart, he became interested in cars and girls (a logical progression - the kid's 16 years old). So the motor sat in pieces. When I asked as to why he took the motor apart, the dad told me that one of the pistons was shot. When I looked at the pistons, there is a little bit of scoring on BOTH of them. So I will take a picture of each piston and send them in for a later post. But right now, I'm trying to find out a couple of different things. The lower unit and intermediate housing are all still together, but the powerhead, carburetor, and associated bits are all in pieces.

My question: Is there any logical progression as to how this thing should be put back together. I have the second most important thing - a manual. I still don't know if I have the most important things - patience and technical savvy, but I thought I would try anyway.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Hi Tsutter,
A manual would be a wise investment at this point. Although relatively simple, there are some tricks to getting the powerhead back together correctly... Any gaps in the manual can be filled in here...
- Scott
