Hmmm. There seem to be a lot of proposed answers to this question.

I've search the forums and the web and heard sae 30 , 25W40, 25W40 synthetic
and also straight 40 weight HD.

So at the risk of being that annoying guy asking the same damned question again....

I have a 22 foot aluminum Starcraft cheiftain converted to center console.
Probably weighs around 2200 lbs. 1973 mercruiser 165hp inline 6 cylinder.

Anybody have experience with similar in Florida and have a good recommendation for the oil?
I have been rebuilding the boat for almost 2 years and now it's ready for an oil changed before
hitting the water.

Thanks.

I just want to do it right.

Thanks. Understood but the water is a lot warmer here than in, say, BC and so is the general temp, so was wondering if 40 weight might be a better choice for 98 degree weather ? I'm not changing the oil until the weekend, so perhaps I'll get some more input before then.
I do appreciate your help and might well go with it .

Not a dumb question, btw. I have spent almost 2 years rebuilding this boat from the hull up.Any useful input would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

According to a picture of another motor :

Use quicksilver formula 4R or API Class SD ( M.S.)
Above 90* SAE 40
32-90 SAE 30
below 32 Sae 20

So hope this helps others.
