I have a 1973 Chrysler outboard, 55hp, Model 555HF, Serial 4803. I am having a problem timing the Breaker Plate. It seems that no matter how I bend the Spark Control Link (link between tower shaft and breaker plate), one or more of the following happens:
1. Link hits one side of the breaker plate channel not allowing full travel of the throttle.
2. If link is bent so that breaker plate is positioned properly at full throttle, it is too short at center throttle (the tower shaft arm starts bending the link straighter).
When I bend the link so that it rotates the breaker plate smoothly throughout the full travel of the throttle, the breaker plate is nowhere near where it's suppose to be.
It seems that the link must be bent not only at an exact angle, but at an exact location along the link. My Clymer's shop manual doesn't give me any information on this.
Is there a drawing or something that shows how this link should be bent? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
