I'm a newby to boating and boat restoration and am blaming everyone on this site for providing such great information, that I've now committed to restore my newly acquired 1973 Bomber Raider Bass Boat. I traded a 14' Mirrocraft aluminum row boat and $50 for this 15'-9" Fiberking Bomber Raider bass boat with trailer. The boat is basically a shell with steering console and a couple of seat pedestals....no motor. I knew going in that the boat would be a project....it needs a new transom and the floor is soft, so it will need to be replaced...probably new stringers and floor.
So, I brought the boat home last Wednesday, and have removed all the cleats, lights, wiring, etc. and have lifted the cap from the hull. I suspected this would be the case and after lifting the cap, there is actually a double skin hull with foam between the inner and outer hull....at least along the sidewalls from transom to bow.
So, my first question (of many more to come) to y'all, is it possible to completely remove the inner hull (skin)? Man, if I could just lift and remove the inner skin exposing the floor, stringers and outer hull, that might eliminate 50% of the grinding on this project. What do you think?
