Hello, I recently aquired a 35hp chrysler outboard motor from my father. The last time he used the boat he lost the prop in the bottom of the lake. I've called everyone local around here to find out what size prop I need but they all list four different props with different pitches. I'm trying to find out which prop size and Pitch came with the motor when it was new? The tag on the outboard motor reads:1973 35 hp chrysler outboard motor. MOD:355HF Serial#4827 35 BHP at 4750RPM Full Power speed Range 4400 to 5100RPM

Hi Candles

There is no set prop for an outboard, except maybe the real small HP ones. The correct prop is the one that will allow the motor to turn the proper RPM's at full throttle, which in your case is around 5000. For that, you would need a Tach. to tell what RPM's you are running. Since you have no prop now, it will be only a guess as to which one will suit your needs. I don't know what size/weight boat you are running it on, so it's even harder to nail it down. A light aluminum boat would require something like a 10-3/8 X 14-1/2 prop. Whereas a heavier fiberglass boat would need something like a 10-3/8 X 11-1/2 Prop. So maybe that will give you a starting point to go with. Many prop shops can tell you which prop is gonna get you close with the boat you have.
